2025-12-13 Maine Pops Flute Choir Entertains Shoppers at Maine Mall in South Portland

For 10-member Maine Pops Flute Choir, it was a perfect location during one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season to hold a shopping center concert.

The flute choir conducted a 45-minute afternoon performance inside Maine Mall in South Portland, entertaining shoppers and observers with a series of holiday compositions for piccolo, flute, alto flute, and bass flute. Hundreds of shoppers stopped by; some taking in a song or two, others staying for the entire performance.

Only two Maine Pops performances remain for the 2025 holiday season. The full concert band performs on December 14 at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Harbor Brass concludes the holiday season engagements with a return performance at the Rock Road Medical Complex in Westbrook at 3 p.m. on December 19.

Steve is a retired competitive marching band photographer, having photographed for Arundel High School (2002-2017), USBands (2011-2025) and the New England Scholastic Band Association (2021-2025). Played trumpet/flugelhorn recreationally with the Anne Arundel Community College community jazz band from 2007-2017. Now performs recreationally with the Maine Pops Concert Band and is an elected member of the band's board of directors. Holds a Master of Arts Degree in Communication from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland University College. Barrett is originally from Montour Falls, NY.
